Owning your own business is one of the most amazing things ever! There are also its ups and downs, there are always things that need to be done, new things that need to be purchased, learning to do, clients to email, websites to update, marketing materials to create…the list goes on and on.
I wish I could take pictures all day every day but there are so many more hats I have to wear as a photographer. Such as..
Secretary
Accountant
Marketer
Website Designer
Graphic Designer
Student
On an average month I spend around 15 hours actually taking pictures.
This past year has been a whirlwind from building my Photography Studio at our place in Montgomery,TX to photographing numerous babies, families, and weddings. I have learned so much about running my own business and my photography has grown immensely.
I have also spent way too many weeks working 7 days a week and late into the nights and evenings when my Husband is home, I have also put some of the biggest loves and passions on hold to build my business. I have built my business debt free and built it from the ground up, sacrificing where I needed to and working long and hard to get to where I am..I have also had to put my faith in God to provide and lead me where I need to be and he has provided more than I could have ever imagined. I always tell people it is so important that they do things that really make them happy, and that thing for me is riding my horses. I am so sad to admit that I haven’t ridden my horse in over a year. This year that is changing.
I am the type of person that believes in sacrificing now for the future…and 2014 was my year of sacrifice so that I could set my business up for success the next 20 years!
It is almost March! Can you believe that?! This year is almost 1/6 of the way over and here I am working late into the night all over again…sacrificing time with my husband and my own family. You can call me old fashioned but I really believe that God intended women to be there for their Husband in marriage and serve him. As my husband and I enter into our second year of Marriage I want to be an even better wife to him and start enjoying life with him..away from my computer, phone, and the hustle and bustle of work.
I have also neglected my friends and family over this past year. So here I am promising them to the world wide web that I will be a better friend, sister, daughter, aunt, etc.
I am going to challenge you to think about this…What does your life revolve around? If that is work then take a step back and make a plan to be a better wife, daughter, sister, friend, granddaughter, or whatever your roles are in this world.
Here is what I am going to do to be a better wife this year.
1. I will limit the number of sessions I book each month…I will not over book myself. This means 5 sessions each month.
2. I will shut my computer down and not touch it at night or on the weekends.
3. I will put my phone away when I am with my husband/family/friends.
4. I will learn to say NO so that I don’t put too many things on my plate at one time.
5. I am going to find time to do something for me each day…for me that will be riding my horse.
6. I will set hours for office work. M-T 9-3.
So you tell me.
What are you going to do this year to be a better and happier you?
How are you going to set boundaries in your business to make sure your work and personal life are successful?
